About Me
It's hard to believe that it's already been a year since I began teaching at East Tennessee State University!
My path to Tennessee began in my hometown of thirteen years, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I graduated from the University of Alabama with my B.A. in Communication Studies in May of 2010. A few months later, I began my journey in the graduate program in Communication Studies at the University of Alabama, and graduated with my M.A. in May of 2012.
I had the opportunity to teach public speaking for six semesters, and it was during this time that I was able to understand my love of teaching. I also had the opportunity to serve as a coach for the Alabama Forensic Council, the competitive speech team at the University of Alabama. I competed on the team for two of my undergraduate years, and it was a thrill to continue to work with my friends as a coach. This opportunity allowed me to work with public speaking and the field of Communication Studies in a very different context.
I currently teach Public Speaking, Argumentation and Debate, and Introduction to Communication Studies for ETSU. It is my hope that I can help students gain a better understanding of the diverse world in which they live, how to clearly structure ideas and arguments, and how to effectively communicate those ideas and arguments to others.
I also serve as a coach for the ETSU Speech & Debate Club. We travel several times during the semester to state and regional debate tournaments, and have a lot of fun together!
While teaching, forensics, and academia has comprised a large part of my life for the past several years, I also have a loving family, amazing group of friends, and brilliant base of mentors who provide me with a lot of laughter and love.
